Working hard for something you don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something you love is called passion.
Even if it is something you loved, even if it is your “gift.” Even if you’re amazing at it. You can still feel unfulfilled.
Because here’s the thing: we grow throughout our lives. We change. We evolve. Something that you may have loved before can sometimes feel like it’s now holding you back, as if it’s a weight pulling you under.
That’s why I stress the importance of checking in with yourself. Ask yourself some essential questions:
- Am I happy doing what I’m doing? Or am I just going through the motions?
- What fires me up?
- Is what I’m doing helping someone? If not, how can I change that?
- What gives me butterflies?
- What advice are people already asking me for?
This isn’t to say developing your passion isn’t stressful, but it’s a different kind of stress. It’s a good stress; it’s one that pushes you outside of your comfort zone.
You don’t have to have it all figured out, but if you’re in a bit of a funk and you can’t figure out why, try these 5 simple, actionable steps to bring some light—some passion—into your life.
- Set a goal for yourself. This will hopefully re-set your focus and motivation.
- Start sharing what you love with others. Not only may you ignite their inspiration, you will also hold yourself accountable to the things you’re working so hard for.
- Offer to help someone else in an area you excel at. Giving to others is virtuous in itself, but it will also always come back around—hopefully at the times you need it most.
- Connect with likeminded women. Driven women drive others to succeed. Be a part of this positive give and take by forming meaningful connections with others by checking in on occasion, giving advice in an area of your expertise, or just lending a listening ear.
- Explore a side hustle. If your 9-5 just isn’t sparking your passion as of late, it might be time to explore other avenues outside of your day job.
Always remember: every expert was once a beginner. You’ve got this.
Stay STRONG,
Jenny
